Homemade Face scrub for a pittance

If you think that all expensive things are stuffed with Quality, you are not the facescrubonly one. Majority of the people think in the same lines. It is a fallacy. Take for example a facial cream or a skin cleansing lotion ensconced in the glittering shelves of a Hi Fi Super market costs many times more than a home made facial or a skin cleanser. Why, it’s so? It’s simple. A manufacturer of a cosmetic product thrusts all the publicity, product wrapping, staff maintenance and a host of hidden costs on the consumer. We, the gullible will assume that the high cost of the product is due to the expenses incurred on the research and development costs of the product. This is far from truth.

My grand mother, in her seventies is still a stunner with her wrinkle free face and glowing skin. Her satin like hair is a cynosure of all eyes. Hold your breath. I had never seen her using a soap or a cleanser or to that matter any beauty product available in the market. Her constant companions are a bottle of coconut oil and a small tin of turmeric powder. Don’t believe it? No wonder you are one of those who do not believe in the magical medical qualities of ordinary things available to us .And remember that these house hold things are inexpensive and do not cause any side effects.

Brown sugar is a regular in every home. Its virtue lies in acting as an effective face scrub. For the same purpose, micro beads are used in the commercially available face scrubs. But Micro beads get stuck in the skin pores and prevent skin from its basic task of eliminating the toxins and impurities. Needless to say that blocked pores are the breeding grounds for a host if skin disorders. Brown sugar melts like sugar. It’s not all; the high blackstrap molasses in it plays an effective role in exfoliating the pores. If you have an oily skin, you can bank on baking soda or ground aspirin or even on genuine salt. If you are a dry skinned type, you can safely try cornmeal or oatmeal.

Here is a home made scrub. First of all wet your face. Add a little water to sugar. Ensure the sugar is not melted. Using your finger tips, scrub the face working in wide, circular strokes. Allow the paste to remain for about 10 minutes. If you wish You can use a toner. Then moisturize.

Fruits like Avocado are the other sources for making home made scrubs. What all you need is one dried avocado pit, half a banana and a tablespoon of olive oil. Grind the dried avocado pit in to fine pieces. This can be done by putting the avocado pit in a plastic bag and hammering.  Mix the fine pieces of Avocado, banana and olive oil to make a thick paste. Without much pressure rub the paste gently over your face to allow the  the natural action of avocado for exfoliating. Rinse with warm water first and then with cold water. pat the face with a dry and soft towel.
